In 1943, Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur is a wonderful confluence of a fascinating past and magnificent present. It is at the same time – a heritage hotel, a museum and the residence of the royal family of the current owner, Raja Gaj Singh. Apart from being a historical landmark, the palace was built in 1929 to employ the drought and harrowing farmers of the region and thus took longer to complete.
